Czech National Hockey (Olympics)
Gold medal championship in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.
Czech Hockey is coming up on it's centennial and the squad (in it's various forms) has a lot to be proud of. As the Czechoslovakia team under Soviet influence, the 1950's here golden times. Epic battles between Canada, Sweden, and the Soviets are still talked about today as they won the gold medal six times.
In the modern Czech Republic era, the national team has built on it's past success. Gold medal championship in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. The Czechs won the gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics and won three straight gold medals at the world championships from 1999 to 2001. The Czechs won gold at the 2005 tournament. At the 2006 Winter Olympics, the Czechs won a bronze medal, defeating Russia 3–0. At the 2006 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships, the Czechs won silver, falling to Sweden. Czech Republic won the 2010 World Championships in Germany.
The Dukla Football Club
A multi-sport athletic club created in 1948 by the Czechoslovak Army, Dukla was known for their swagger as being the best. Named after the Battle of Dukla Pass (borderland between Poland and Slovakia in WW2), the Dukla sports team had a stranglehold on Czech football in the late 1950's and 60's.
Dukla Prague was one of the more successful football clubs a Czech football from the city of Prague. During their dynasty, Dukla won 11 Czechoslovak league titles (last won 1982) and nine Czechoslovak Cups (last won 1990). In the 1966-67 season, the team reached the semifinals of the European Cup. As late as 1985-86 they reached the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final. In modern times, Dukla Praha has battled from relegation to play in the Czech Gambrinus Liga.
