The Czechs love their sports. Ice Hockey is a national point of pride followed by the fanatic frenzy of football (Soccer to us Americans).
In recent years, the Czech people have tried their hands at professional American football, baseball, and lacrosse. These professional and semi-professional leagues have a small but loyal following.

Czech National Hockey (Olympics)

Czech Hockey is coming up on it's centennial and the squad (in it's various forms) has a lot to be proud of. As the Czechoslovakia team under Soviet influence, the 1950's here golden times. Epic battles between Canada, Sweden, and the Soviets are still talked about today as they won the gold medal six times.
In the modern Czech Republic era, the national team has built on it's past success. Gold medal championship in the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. The Czechs won the gold medal at the 1998 Winter Olympics and won three straight gold medals at the world championships from 1999 to 2001. The Czechs won gold at the 2005 tournament.  At the 2006 Winter Olympics, the Czechs won a bronze medal, defeating Russia 3–0. At the 2006 Men's World Ice Hockey Championships, the Czechs won silver, falling to Sweden. Czech Republic won the 2010 World Championships in Germany.

The national team was founded in 1901, existing under the previously mentioned names before the separation of Czechoslovakia in 1992. Their first international competition as the Czech Republic was UEFA Euro 1996 where they finished runners-up, their best finish in any international competition.

When the Czech Republic was part of Czechoslovakia, the national team had runner-up finishes in World Cups (1934, 1962) and aEuropean Championship win in 1976.

One of the best goalkeepers in the game's modern history is Petr Cech. He has led the national team to a level of competitiveness that gives this nation hope against the strongest of opponents. 

The Dukla Football Club

A multi-sport athletic club created in 1948 by the Czechoslovak Army, Dukla was known for their swagger as being the best. Named after the Battle of Dukla Pass (borderland between Poland and Slovakia in WW2), the Dukla sports team had a stranglehold on Czech football in the late 1950's and 60's.
Dukla Prague was one of the more successful football clubs a Czech football from the city of Prague. During their dynasty, Dukla won 11 Czechoslovak league titles (last won 1982) and nine Czechoslovak Cups (last won 1990). In the 1966-67 season, the team reached the semifinals of the European Cup. As late as 1985-86 they reached the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup semi-final. In modern times, Dukla Praha has battled from relegation to play in the Czech Gambrinus Liga.
