It is hard to believe we are at this point again in this pandemic but the COVID numbers continue to grow throughout Czechia and new regulations are now in place. Christmas markets have been closed for the season and many are making the decision to get their first time vac-jabs, booster shots, and vaccinations for their kids. The Omicron variant is already here in Czech Republic and as of this posting, the real numbers are still a week away to get a proper assessment. All this being said, Christmas prep still continues as malls stay open (for the moment) and the national Christmas tree is up in Old Town Square. Let's cross our fingers that the "R" number drops a bit in the next few weeks. Stay safe and Healthy.

On June 21, 1621 – the longest day of the year – a huge crowd gathered in Prague’s Old Town Square to view the executions of twenty-seven of the noblemen involved in the Estates Uprising the previous year....the executioner, Jan Mydlar. Here is an old photo of days gone by in the Czech lands. Easter weekend is upon us! Vesele Velikonoce! from the Bohemican Podcast March 8th marks the day called "International Women's Day". This day of observance to show appreciation for the women in our lives is a throwback to the old Soviet holiday calendar.
This was also known as "International Working Women's Day". Throughout Russia and Europe, the day has morphed into a combination of Mother's Day and Valentine's Day and away from the Soviet political meaning. However, it does spark much talk on issues of fair pay in the work force and many other topical causes. Fair gender pay is a big concern in the Czech Republic as this nation holds the dubious distinction as one of the worst wage disparagements in pay for women in Europe. This site may be a good resource to find out more of this international effort: http://www.internationalwomensday.com/ 70 years ago today, the U.S. 398th Bomb Group mistakenly dropped it's payload on Prague during the bombing runs on Dresden, Germany on February 14, 1945.
